Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
Step One: Before submitting a request
The Legal Department processes requests made under the
Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (“Act”) to ensure that information shared is in accordance with the Act. This includes, redacting personal information, reviewing applicable exemption, seeking third party consent, amongst other steps under the Act.
Some municipal information, such as council reports, meeting agendas, and by-law’s, are readily available to the public. Please consult these areas before submitting a request.
Contacting the city department responsible for the information is suggested as a routine disclosure process may be in place, or they may be able to provide information about the records that may be useful to you.

Step Two: Submitting a request
A request must be made in writing and provide enough information about the records you wish to receive such as date ranges, property addresses and file numbers. You will only receive material you ask for.
You may submit a written request to the Legal Department using the application form below. You must include the applicable costs as set out below and address the same to:

Requests may also be made in person by attending the Civic Centre, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding noon and 1 p.m., civic holiday’s, and other mandated closures. If able to, please complete the application form prior to attending in person.
Costs
There is a $5.00 non-refundable charge to make a request, and additional charges apply in accordance with the regulations made under the Act for copying and record preparation.
Upon completion of your request, we can charge $7.50 per 15 minutes spent preparing your request and $0.20 per page copied.
Please note that the FOI will likely cost more than $25.00, if it is estimated to cost more than $100.00, you will be notified and a deposit will be requested before we proceed.
