Retail Cannabis Location
The Ontario Government announced in July that 50 new private cannabis retail stores were being licensed in the province, including a location in Sault Ste. Marie. The City of Sault Ste. Marie has developed a Preferred Sault Ste. Marie Requirements Map that was approved by City Council in January, 2019. The City worked with Algoma Public Health and other agencies to develop locational criteria for retail stores selling cannabis in Sault Ste. Marie. In addition to the property being properly zoned (any commercial zone that permits retail sales), the store location must be a minimum of 150 metres from a school, park, community centre or existing treatment facility. This location criteria is consistent with the provincial objectives of protecting youth and public health and safety.
