Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan

As required by regulation under the Electricity Act, 1998 the Ministry of Energy under O. Reg. 507/18: Broader Public Sector: Energy Reporting and Conservation and Demand Management Plans, the City of Sault Ste. Marie reports on their corporate energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions annually to the province. Reporting is required for the following operation types:  

  • Administrative offices and related facilities, including municipal council chambers;
  • Public libraries;
  • Cultural facilities, indoor recreational facilities and community centres, including art galleries, performing arts facilities, auditoriums, indoor sports arenas, indoor ice rinks, indoor swimming pools, gyms and indoor courts for playing tennis, basketball or other sports;
  • Ambulance stations and associated offices and facilities;
  • Fire stations and associated offices and facilities;
  • Police stations and associated offices and facilities;
  • Storage facilities where equipment or vehicles are maintained, repaired or stored;
  • Buildings or facilities related to the treatment or pumping of water or sewage; and,
  • Parking garages. 
Energy reporting and conservation planning helps the City of Sault Ste. Marie to: 

  • Manage energy use and costs;
  • Identify best practices and energy saving opportunities;
  • Evaluate and compare energy consumption; and
  • Set goals and measure success.
