Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers as British Soldiers

Through assistance with special events, education programs, and daily operations, volunteers participate in the preservation and the historic interpretation of the Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site.

Volunteers have been an integral part of the Site since its creation. They perform an important role with day-to-day operations, enhancing visitor's enjoyment and increasing community awareness of the Site.

From the volunteer that conducts tours, to the Historic Site Board Members that set policy, all of our volunteers are members of a varied team that offers the Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site many skills and talents from our community.

Historic Site Board Volunteers are responsible for the management of the Site. These volunteers are appointed to the Board by the Sault Ste. Marie City Council.

Junior and Intermediate Volunteers illustrate what life would have been like in the early 1800's. They provide interpretation by doing the tasks that the 13 Ermatinger children would have done, such as helping with kitchen and yard work, crafts, and sewing. It is not all work though - these volunteers often make toys and play, just as the Ermatinger children did.
