Call to Artists: Northern Community Centre
The City of Sault Ste. Marie invites local and national professional artists, including artist teams/collectives who reside in Canada with relevant experience and expertise as practicing professional artists.
The theme for the two-dimensional public art installation, which will activate the lobby by engaging with the local community and visitors attending the Northern Community Centre is open for interpretation. The facility includes an indoor turf facility, 55+ programming, community programming and two new arenas and community rooms which are currently under construction. This facility serves a diverse range of ages in our community.
A total project budget of $35,000 has been approved for the purchase, delivery, and installation of this art piece(s). This amount includes artist's fees, materials, fabrication, installation and engineering if required.
The Selection Committee comprised of Members of City Staff and representative(s) from the Cultural Vitality Committee will be responsible for determining the artists that are short-listed. A maximum of five (5) artists will be short-listed. The short-listed artists will be notified the week of August 8, 2022, and invited to create a detailed design proposal. A detailed Terms of Reference project document will be provided to guide short-listed artists in the preparation of their proposals.
Short-listed artists will be paid a flat fee of $1,000 for this stage.
The public will have an opportunity to view short-listed proposals.
The Selection Committee will chose the finalist whose proposal responds best to the site and aligns with the
City of Sault Ste. Marie’s Public Art Policy – Guiding Principles and selection criteria.
