Financial Incentive Programs

As part of the Downtown CIP, the City has established a number of financial incentive programs to catalyze private sector investments downtown.

Each program has its own eligibility requirements. Please read the information guide for more information.

We are currently accepting applications for the following programs:

Tax Increment-Equivalent Grant (TIEG)

The value of the TIEG is equal to 100% of the municipal tax increase in the first year of project completion. Thereafter, it is provided on a declining rate basis until the fourth year. A project investment of $500,000 is required.

Façade Improvement Grant

Matching grants of up to $20,000 may be provided for significant exterior renovations to non-residential properties to promote attractive design, better business exposure, and inviting streets. View the Downtown Commercial Façade Improvement Guidelines.

Building Activation Grant for Vacant Spaces

The grant is administered on a matching funds basis up to a maximum of $20,000 and can be used towards repurposing vacant space in an effort to support the establishment of future businesses.

Upper Floor Residential Conversion Grant

The grant is administered on a matching funds basis, up to a maximum of $15,000 to facilitate the creation of high quality living opportunities in the downtown.

Patio Conversion Grant

The grant is allocated on a matching funds basis, up to a maximum of $5,000 and can be used towards materials, labour, and design work required to prepare under-utilized space behind buildings of patios that are associated with food and beverage businesses.
