Community Energy Efficiency Incentives

Energy efficiency is one of the most cost effective ways for residents and businesses to lower their energy emissions, as well as save money. It is also a core deliverable under the Sault Ste. Marie Community Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan 2020 - 2030.

There are a variety of energy conservation and retrofit incentive programs available to residents and businesses in Canada and Ontario. A summary of the programs is listed below.

Home Efficiency Rebate Plus
In January 2023, Enbridge Gas and Canada’s Greener Homes Grant partnered to provide rebates towards eligible retrofits such as home insulation, windows and doors, heat pumps and renewable energy systems. The coordinated Home Efficiency Rebate Plus program will help more Ontarians save energy at home and is open to all eligible Ontarians regardless of the energy source they use to heat their homes. This is great news for residents across the province, including current Enbridge Gas customers who use natural gas to heat their homes and will benefit from enhanced rebates up to $10,000. Participants can also offset the cost of their EnerGuide home evaluation with an additional rebate up to $600. Learn more about the Home Efficiency Rebate Plus

 Greener Homes Program
The Canada Greener Homes loan helps Canadians make their homes more energy efficient and comfortable. It offers interest free financing in addition to the Canada Greener Homes Grant to help you complete some of the major retrofits recommended by your energy advisor in the Canada Greener Homes Grant assessment. Homeowners can get up to $40,000 zero interest loan for up to 10 years to help pay for installing a heat pump, insulation, new windows, or other qualifying home energy efficiency upgrades.
