Lifesaving Courses

Advanced lifesaving courses are taught at various times throughout the year.

Courses include:

  • Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross
  • National Lifeguard (NL)
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
  • Standard First Aid CPR-C

Want to become a Lifeguard?

Sign up for these Lifesaving Society Courses.
  1. Bronze Medallion - Must be 13 years old or completed Bronze Star
  2. Bronze Cross - Must have completed Bronze Medallion
  3. National Lifeguard - Must be 15 years old, completed Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid CPR C.

National Lifeguard Course Information

Fitness skills - Candidates must be able to do the following by the end of the course:
  • 20lb brick retrieval
  • 15 meter underwater swim
  • 50 meter swim in 60 second or less
  • 400 meter swim in 10 minutes or less
Prerequisites - Candidate must be 16 years of age before the exam date, have successfully completed Bronze Cross as well as Standard First Aid CPR C which must be WSIB approved.
