City encourages residents to get involved in the 2018 Budget process

Tuesday, September 5, 2017

The City of Sault Ste. Marie is inviting citizens to participate in the 2018 municipal budget process. There are a number of ways to get involved in the conversation.

  • An online budget tool is available at saultstemarie.ca/budgetinput. This tool allows taxpayers to indicate the areas where they would like to see tax dollars utilized. New this year is an option for tenants to provide feedback. The deadline to submit input using the online budget tool is September 30.
  • Provide your feedback to the City's social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter using the handle @CitySSM or #saultbudget
  • Call the Finance Department office at 705-759-5350
  • Mail suggestions to: City of Sault Ste. Marie - Finance Department 99 Foster Drive, Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6A 5X6
  • Attend a public budget input session where staff will be available to answer questions on a one-to-one basis. The first session takes place on September 13 from 5 - 6 p.m. at the Northern Community Centre meeting room. An additional session is scheduled for September 14 from 5 - 6 p.m. in the Russ Ramsay Board Room located on the third floor of the Civic Centre.
"The consultation process is an opportunity to find creative solutions, find efficiencies or increase revenues as part of our City's long-term fiscal sustainability plan," says Shelley Schell, Chief Financial Officer and City Treasurer. "We appreciate our community's input to ensure the best value in service delivery and to help us manage municipal finances in a responsible and prudent manner."

All ideas generated thorough the consultations will be considered as part of the 2018 budget development process. The City of Sault Ste. Marie thanks the public for their input and participation.
