Smoke Alarm Charges

Friday, October 19, 2018

During the week of October 15th, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Service crews responded to a reported dryer fire in the city's west end.

Further investigation revealed the home had no smoke alarm protection which is required by the Ontario Fire Code. As a result, the homeowner was fined $360 for failing to maintain working smoke alarms in operating condition.

"Working smoke alarms are an integral part of personal family safety, states Deputy Chief Paul Milosevich. They are mandatory on all levels, outside sleeping areas, and require routine maintenance to verify their proper operation."

Fire Services would like to remind the public that, when you change the time on your clock, change the batteries in your Smoke and CO alarms.
