City Encourages Community Support for Refugee Initiative
Thursday, October 1, 2015
A community-wide effort is underway to raise funds to sponsor a family affected by the global refugee crisis.
The City of Sault Ste. Marie will host a Refugee Initiative information meeting
Monday, October 5 starting at 7 p.m. in the Russ Ramsay Board Room, Civic Centre - 99 Foster Drive.
Individuals, organizations and businesses interested in becoming involved in a local fundraising campaign are encouraged to attend.
"To date, we presently have a commitment of support from church groups, financial institutions, major retailers and potentially a service club and hotel. We are looking to co-ordinate our efforts in what appears to be gaining momentum to this most worthwhile initiative," says Ward 1 Councillor Steve Butland.
The City's Social Services Department will lead the organized effort to raise funds for the refugee initiative.
