Shape the Sault Public Open House: Strengthening the Community Heritage Conservation Policies

Monday, November 19, 2018

The City of Sault Ste. Marie has launched Shape the Sault to assist in creating a new Official Plan for the city. The Official Plan will guide local decision making on land use, development and public infrastructure over the next 20 years.

Two public information sessions will take place this month to discuss Sault Ste. Marie’s heritage conservation. New policies will be proposed to strengthen heritage protection in the downtown area, as well as in four community neighbourhoods that have been identified for potential Locally Significant Heritage Area status.

Drop-in hours and locations for the first two open houses will be as follows:

Simpson, Leo, Upton, McGregor
November 22, 2018
4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Zion Lutheran Church
189 Upton Road

Lower Pim Neighbourhood
November 27, 2018
4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
St. Andew's United Church
712 Wellington Street East

"The open house allows us to collect stories and information about the history of these historic neighbourhoods," said Don McConnell, Planning Director, City of Sault Ste. Marie. "The proposed heritage conservation policies will provide specific guidance to ensure new development respects the overall character of these areas."

All are welcome to attend these sessions and discuss Sault Ste. Marie's heritage conservation with City staff. For more information about this project and to stay informed on upcoming events, visit www.shapethesault.ca/heritage.
