Sault Freecycle 2015 invites Saultites to 'kick it to the curb'

Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Residents are encouraged to participate in Sault Freecycle 2015 taking place Saturday, May 30. Sault Freecycle is a voluntary Green initiative intended to reduce the amount of unwanted items thrown away at the City landfill.

To participate, place unwanted re-usable household items at the curb in front of your home on May 30 with a sign or stickers indicating FREE for take-away by neighbours and other residents. Residents living in apartments or condominiums should get approval from their landlord before bringing items curbside. Sault Freecycle happens rain or shine - use your discretion when deciding whether to put items at the curb.

Examples of 'freecycling' items include: books, CDs and DVDs; furniture, electronics and small appliances; sports equipment and toys; yard and gardening tools and equipment (e.g., lawn mowers, snow blowers, rakes, shovels); kitchen gadgets, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans; construction materials (e.g., nails, paint, wood); and clothing. Please do not leave out mattresses or unsafe items such as baby walkers or lawn darts.

Items not picked up by 9 p.m. Saturday evening are the responsibility of the homeowner/residents and must be returned to their homes. Leftover objects will not be collected by the City's Public Works and Transportation Department. Consider donating unclaimed items to a charitable organization listed at www.facebook.com/saultfreecycle.

Share your Sault Freecycle photos and stories on social media using #saultfreecycle or post to Facebook at www.facebook.com/saultfreecycle.

For more information: Whether it's to free up space in your house, or to find something great for free, Sault residents won't want to miss the fourth annual Sault Freecycle day on Saturday, May 30.
