Citizen Appointment to Committee of Adjustment (Deadline Extended)

City Council is accepting applications from individuals interested in serving on the Committee of Adjustment.

The Committee of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial body which provides an independent review of certain applications under the Planning Act.

The following skill sets are desired:
  • Experience in adjudication and mediation;
  • Familiarity and/or experience with the City of Sault Ste. Marie's Official Plan and Zoning By-law
  • Legal and/or construction background
  • Excellent listening skills and the ability to analyze information;
  • Sound judgment, tact, fairness, and decorum;
  • Good communicator, ability to render verbal reasoning for a decision, clearly and concisely;
  • High ethical standards and integrity;
  • Respect for access to justice, diversity, and accommodation
  • Ability to attend 2 p.m. hearings on a Wednesday, at least once a month with additional hearing(s) as required.
Interested individuals are asked to submit an application form available online at saultstemarie.ca/BoardsCommittees or from the City Clerk's office - cityclerk@cityssm.on.ca, 705-759-5388 or 99 Foster Drive.

Personal information is collected under the authority of the Municipal Act and will be held in strict confidence to be used solely for the purpose stated above.

Applications will be accepted by the Clerk's Department - Level 4, Civic Centre, until 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2017.

A nominating committee will consider the applications and make recommendations to Council for consideration at the April 10, 2017 Council meeting.
