Celebrate Local Diversity through #SaultCulture Campaign
Wednesday, March 18, 2015
In honour of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21, the City has launched a #SaultCulture social media campaign. Residents of Sault Ste. Marie are invited to celebrate their culture through social media using #SaultCulture when sharing moments and photos.
Mayor Christian Provenzano says, "It is important as a community that we embrace the uniqueness of our fellow residents. All people possess unique abilities and everyone plays an important role in making Sault Ste. Marie a great place to live, work and play. I encourage all residents to take a moment and share a photo with us to celebrate the cultural diversity of our community."
Sault Ste. Marie is comprised of many different cultures. Our diversity is reflected in our classrooms, workplaces, playgrounds and neighbourhoods. Embracing opportunities to learn about one another's ethnic background shows how much we have in common as human beings.
The City of Sault Ste. Marie, through the Local Immigration Partnership (LIP), works with 53 organizations and members of the public to create opportunities to celebrate cultural diversity and welcome newcomers to our community. LIP is engaged in the attraction and retention of newcomers, strategic community planning, new immigrant services, cultural events and celebrations, as well as promoting the City's Immigrant Strategy "Building a Welcoming Community".
