Ward 6 Council seat vacancy to be filled by appointment

At its June 12 meeting, Sault Ste. Marie City Council decided the vacant seat of Ward 6 Councillor will be filled by appointment. The appointment will fill the position for the remaining 16 month Council term.
Those interested in the Ward 6 candidacy must complete the
Consent of Nominee / Declaration of Qualification form (also available in the City Clerk's Department). The application must be completed and signed in person at the Clerk's Department, Civic Centre, 4th Floor, 99 Foster Drive before a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits. Commissioners will be available in the City Clerk's Office Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The deadline for filing an application is 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2017.
To qualify for consideration, candidates need not reside in Ward 6 however, must be a Canadian citizen aged 18 or older and must either reside or hold property in the City. Applicants are welcome to submit letters, biographies or related documents to be considered by City Council in support of their candidacy, but note these will be made available to the public including the media. All forms and documents submitted by the applicant are a matter of public record.
A list of eligible candidates will be brought to Council to conduct its appointment process. It is expected that Council will appoint a new Ward 6 councillor at its June 26 meeting. For more information, view the
