Transit Optimization Plan

Friday, June 9, 2017

The City of Sault Ste. Marie is currently undertaking a Transit Optimization Study. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the existing services provided by Sault Ste. Marie Transit and to identify opportunities to optimize service, improve service quality and meet the needs of the community.

As an integral part of the study, Sault Ste. Marie Transit will be hosting an open house and a series of focus groups to engage the public. The initial open house will take place on June 13, 2017 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Downtown Sault Transit Bus Terminal at Queen and Dennis Street. Following the initial consultations, an online survey will also be available.

"The feedback received will be combined with a detailed analysis of the transit system performance and long term projections," states Wally Beck of Transit Consulting Network and Project Manager for the City's Optimization Plan. "From this, a preliminary draft of service, infrastructure and supporting measure recommendations will be created and refined with community leaders and transit staff scheduled for October 2017. The recommendations will then be presented to the public for further feedback in November 2017 prior to being presented to Council in early December 2017."

The study will create a comprehensive analysis of Sault Ste. Marie Transit routes, service levels and service models, including community bus service. It will also gauge input from transit passengers, staff, stakeholders and the community regarding the City's public transit needs and priorities.
