Sault Ste. Marie celebrates the grand opening of its first Disc Golf course

Wednesday, June 14, 2017

You're invited to celebrate the opening of Sault Ste. Marie's first Disc Golf course on Saturday, June 17 at 1:00 p.m. The Kiwanis Club of Lakeshore Disc Golf course located at Penhorwood Park, on the corner of Pine Street and MacDonald Avenue, will officially open to the public. Be one of the first to learn about this new and exciting sporting opportunity in the community.

"There is no better feeling than watching your disc sail through the air and hearing the chains rattle, that's when you know you've made the perfect shot," states Curtis Vanderloo, Vice President of the Sault Disc Golf Association who played an integral role in the development of the Course.

Disc Golf is a golf inspired game played with a specialized flying disc. Instead of hitting a ball into a hole, players throw a disc into a target. The Kiwanis Club of Lakeshore supported the 12- hole course through a donation of $10,000 to purchase the disc golf equipment.

"As City Councillor for Ward 2 I'm thrilled to see this exciting new Disc Golf course located in Ward 2 and available for all residents to enjoy," says Councillor Susan Myers.

Jack Davidson, President of the Kiwanis Club of Lakeshore Sault Ste. Marie and Councillor Susan Myers will be in attendance to throw the inaugural disc at the grand opening. Disc Golf kits will be available for purchase at the opening and first 50 people to arrive will receive a free disc. This event is free to attend and all are welcome to join in the celebration.
