Rotary Club Adventure Playground and Bellevue Park Interactive Sensory Play Area

Tuesday, July 12, 2016

The City of Sault Ste. Marie is pleased to announce the opening of the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie Adventure Playground and the Bellevue Park Interactive Outdoor Sensory Play Area. A grand opening event is set for 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 19 at Bellevue Park.

The public is invited to gather at the Queen Street East at Shore Drive area for a short ceremony followed by a barbeque, refreshments and play time.

The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie Adventure Playground has been made possible through a significant donation from the Club for the purchase of inclusive and accessible playground equipment. The equipment enables children to be independent, safe, and active while using features that require climbing, pulling, balance, hanging and imagination targeting exceptionalities.

The Bellevue Park Interactive Outdoor Sensory Play Area is the first of its kind available to our community. Enhanced accessible play options eliminate barriers to play, provide sensory stimulation and promote family bonding. This project was created through funding from Employment and Social Development Canada (Enabling Accessibility Grant) and donations from the Algoma Autism Foundation, the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie, Community Living Algoma and the City.

"We are extremely grateful to our provincial and community partners for the addition of inclusive and accessible playground equipment at Bellevue Park," says Virginia McLeod, the City's Manager of Recreation. "I encourage Sault residents to join us July 19 for our grand opening event."
