Sault Ste. Marie CAO Announces Retirement
Monday, January 5, 2015
Joe Fratesi, our City's longest serving Chief Administrative Officer, will step down this spring. Fratesi met with Mayor Provenzano earlier today to provide notice of his intent to retire effective April 30, 2015.
"Over my 35 years of service, I have had the privilege of serving alongside many great men and women, both in the political and the administrative streams. I have learned much along the way from my colleagues and hopefully I have been able to reciprocate in at least some small way," said Fratesi. "I will miss City Hall and the people who work there; however, I am fully confident that the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie will be left in good hands and will continue to be well served by city staff in all of our departments."
"On behalf of City Council and the City of Sault Ste. Marie, I thank Mr. Fratesi for his many years of dedicated service to our community as both an elected representative and a member of senior city staff," commented Mayor Provenzano. "Personally, I thank Mr. Fratesi for his assistance during my transition to the Mayor's office and I wish him a very happy and healthy retirement and much success in whatever he chooses to do next."
Formal authorization to start the CAO replacement process, in accordance with the appropriate City By-law, will be discussed at the next regular Council meeting scheduled for January 12, 2015.
