Historical Event to Commemorate the Ending of the War of 1812

Wednesday, January 7, 2015

Algoma 1812 and the Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site (ECNHS) will commemorate the ending of the War of 1812 with historical re-enactments, cannon firings and musket demonstrations taking place at the Site this weekend.

Event Information:
Saturday, January 10, 2015 – 1 to 4 p.m.
Heritage Discovery Centre (ECNHS) - 800 Bay Street

The cannon firings and musket demonstrations will occur simultaneously with a similar event taking place in New Orleans, Louisiana to acknowledge the Battle of New Orleans 1815 and the Treaty of Ghent 1814 – two pivotal events that ended the War of 1812. The firing of cannons locally is being coordinated through the Armstrong Company Royal Newfoundland Regiment.

Historical re-enactments and information will be available throughout the afternoon. The public is invited to warm up by the fire in the summer kitchen, experience the new Heritage Discovery Centre, and visit The Voyageur Trading Post Gift Shop.

"This afternoon will also be an opportunity to thank the many volunteers who assisted Algoma 1812 in the 5 years of commemorative activities," said Kathy Fisher, ECNHS Curator.

Free parking is available at the Municipal Heritage Parking lot located west of the site off Queen Street East. For more information, call 705-759-5443.
