Cindy Parniak Receives Municipal Heritage Committee Award

Friday, February 19, 2016

The Sault Ste. Marie Municipal Heritage Committee is pleased to announce Ms. Cindy Parniak, owner of 1164 Queen Street East, as the recipient of the 2015 Municipal Heritage Committee Heritage Award.

This award is presented annually by the City of Sault Ste. Marie in recognition of contributions to the preservation, restoration and enhancement of the city's heritage resources.

The Parniak home is a 1 ½ storey residence prominently situated at the corner of Queen Street and Riverview Avenue. Built in 1916 for Grocer Wm. H. Ewing, the exterior consisting of a Prairie-style stucco design with Tudor elements remains in its original condition. Minimal changes have been made to the home's interior, with original and enhanced woodwork throughout.

The grounds are unique with well-kept flower beds and Italian marble statues: two marble lions grace the side entrance to the home.

This residence is one of only two homes in Sault Ste. Marie designed and built by the same builder as the home at 911 Wellington Street East.

Cindy Parniak is awarded the 2015 Sault Ste. Marie Municipal Heritage Award for her efforts and determination in preserving this historic property. The award will be presented at the February 22 City Council meeting.
