Call for Entries - Traffic Box Wrap Competition Round 2

Wednesday, December 14, 2016

The City of Sault Ste. Marie is announcing a unique opportunity for local artists. The second annual Traffic Box Competition is underway, and artists are being asked to submit designs that will be transferred to vinyl wraps and applied to twelve traffic boxes located in the city's downtown core.

"As co-chair of City Council's Community Committee on Graffiti, once again I am pleased to see the traffic box wrap initiative. I have heard many positive comments from a number of folks who appreciate the beauty of the artists' work and it is great to showcase the creative ability of local artists and beautify our city at the same time," said Susan Myers, Ward 2 Councillor.

This Call for Entry is open to all artists working in a broad range of media, including painters, photographers, collage artists, graffiti artists, etc., and who are residents of Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area.

This year's theme will be Canada's 150th Anniversary (where focus can touch on but is not limited to: diversity & inclusion, reconciliation, the environment and youth). Successful Artists will receive a $500 honorarium per Successful Design to cover materials and supplies.

The deadline to submit applications is 4 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2017. Additional information, including the application package, is available below or by calling 705.541.7175.

Traffic Box Wrap Application

City Council established a Graffiti Task Force in an effort to combat nuisance tagging throughout the community. In an effort to fulfill this mandate, the City has established this competition to deter "tags" that often appear on traffic boxes and engage local artists to beautify the boulevards of Sault Ste. Marie.
