Paramedics to Help the Hungry December 12

Thursday, December 10, 2015

This year's Paramedics Helping the Hungry Food Drive will take place December 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Walmart north located at 446 Great Northern Road.

Off-duty paramedics will be accepting non-perishable food and cash donations in support of the Soup Kitchen Community Centre on James Street.

The Soup Kitchen provides meals to all age groups and serves 1500-2000 meals per month. Winter months at the Centre are a busy time as the demand increases, and supplies often run critically low.

The Soup Kitchen is currently in need of the following items: pasta and pasta sauce; rice; canned tomatoes; healthy snacks; coffee; juice boxes; canned milk; canned tuna and meats; cereals; and other non-perishable food items. Cash donations allow the Soup Kitchen to purchase perishable items, as required.

This is the fourth year paramedics have operated the Food Drive and we are once again asking for the public's assistance. If you are blessed with a roof over your head and food in your cupboards, please consider what you can do to help those living in our community who are less fortunate. The annual food drive has raised $7,935 to date and has collected approximately 6,350 pounds of food.

Sault Ste. Marie Paramedics would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and all the best in 2016.
