Mayor Provenzano Meets With Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation
December 12, 2014
Mayor Christian Provenzano welcomed and met with Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation's (OLG) Chair Philip Olsson and OLG's Acting President and CEO, Tom Marinelli this past week in the Mayor's office at the Civic Centre.
OLG's leadership team met with Mayor Provenzano to affirm OLG's continued commitment to Sault Ste. Marie and to bring Mayor Provenzano up-to-date on OLG's modernization plans for its lottery and gaming operations in Sault Ste. Marie.
Mr. Olsson and Mr. Marinelli were unequivocal in their commitment that Sault Ste. Marie remain the headquarters for OLG and that OLG is working to build on that commitment. Mayor Provenzano was pleased to receive that commitment and confirmed the City's intention to work with the OLG and the EDC to develop both public and private gaming partnerships in Sault Ste. Marie.
"We also discussed OLG's role in the Digital Gaming Task Force, established by Sault MPP and Minister of Government and Consumer Services, David Orazietti, and what the City can do to assist that task force," said Provenzano. "One key element for OLG and the Task Force is the need to establish a human resource strategy to attract both Sault residents and would-be residents for a number of positions currently available at OLG in the Foster Drive Headquarters."
There are currently 53 open positions at the Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corporation: 15 positions are posted for the Sault Ste. Marie head office with the remaining 38 positions posted for either Sault Ste. Marie or Toronto offices.
"We need to do our best to fill these positions here in Sault Ste. Marie, all 53 of them so that the jobs stay in Sault Ste. Marie", said Provenzano. "I encourage everyone who is in the job market or who knows someone in the job market to consider these employment opportunities. I believe the OLG is committed to keeping these jobs here but we need to provide the human resource to fill these jobs. Let's show them we can do it."
