Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Deputy Chief to retire in 2019

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Board (SSMPSB) has received notice from Deputy Chief Sean Sparling of his intention to retire on February 1, 2019.

Deputy Chief Sparling has served with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service (SSMPS) since 1992. He worked extensively within the service, including Uniform Patrol, Morality, Technological Crime Unit, Street Team, Major Crime, Professional Standards and Investigation Services. In 2014, he was named Deputy Chief and his accomplishments in this role include helping establish the SSMPS Peer Support Program and spearheading the SSMPS Indigenous Education Training Program.

Throughout his time with the SSMPS, Deputy Chief Sparling has demonstrated a strong commitment to the community and his volunteerism includes an active role with fundraising for the 2019 Special Olympics Winter Games.

The SSMPSB wishes to thank Deputy Chief Sparling for his 26 years of service. The board will undertake a comprehensive search for his replacement, beginning later this month.
