Thursday, April 30, 2015

Ontario Works (OW), in collaboration with the John Howard Society and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, is seeking 12 candidates to participate in the Superior Skills Light Recycling Training Program which begins May 11, 2015.

Successful candidates will attend 4 weeks of initial training in pre-employment skills, offered through the John Howard Society, including problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution skills.

After the initial 4 weeks, Superior Skills will provide an intensive 8-week training program focusing on skills required to succeed in the recycling industry.

Participants in the Recycling Stream of Superior Skills will begin at Mill Square's commercial grade recycling facility sorting and distributing recycled goods.

The skills taught within this program, both workplace training and program specific, are in demand in Sault Ste. Marie. Participants will also develop strong workplace skills throughout the program with a focus in areas such as precision, sales, and customer service.

The strategy will focus on ensuring that participants understand and develop skills and attributes necessary to succeed in the workplace, which will increase job retention.

Superior Skills is a unique partnership between Ontario Works, Sault College, the Algoma District School Board and Destination North.
