Voter Accessibility

The City of Sault Ste. Marie - City Clerk's office is responsible for ensuring that municipal elections are accessible to all eligible voters.

  • Our policies and procedures are consistent with the legislated changes and principles of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996
  • We respect the dignity and independence of persons with disabilities
  • We strive to ensure access to voting services that are integrated and equitable
  • We offer various voting options and accommodations that address and take into account a wide range of abilities
  • We deliver accessible customer service by providing all election officials with training
The 2018 Municipal Election Accessibility Plan provides an overview of initiatives aimed at enhancing accessibility for voters. It has been developed by City staff in consultation with persons with disabilities and community organizations, and builds on recommendations from the 2014 Election Accessibility Report.

Individuals who encounter an accessibility issue or would like to provide feedback can submit a Feedback Form, or contact the City Clerk's office for assistance at:

The collection of feedback from electors with disabilities will be utilized to improve service both generally and in future elections. We continue to learn and adapt our methods to create a positive voting experience.
