On February 21, 2017, the new Comprehensive Signs By-law 2017-35 came into effect, which includes among other things, significant changes to portable sign regulations.

The following phasing policy is being implemented for portable signs:
  1. Existing portable sign permits can be renewed anytime between now and May 21, 2017.
  2. Any existing permits renewed prior to May 21, 2017, will have an expiry date of May 21, 2019.
The phasing policy only applies to the renewal of existing legal portable signs with valid permits. All new portable signs will be required to adhere to the new regulations.
