Age-Friendly

The Age-Friendly Communities Initiative is a program of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Age-Friendly Sault Ste. Marie began its work in 2012 under the leadership of then Mayor Debbie Amaroso. Over the next 2 years work took place in various phases to assess the 8 key community domains identified by the WHO as important components in a healthy age friendly community.

The final report released in September 2014 - Age-Friendly Sault Ste. Marie Community Assessment Report, identifies the assessment results and the necessary action steps toward making Sault Ste. Marie more 'Age-Friendly'.

The next step is to incorporate the action steps into the community planning process.
